Hello,

Last year I sent two citizenship applications - for me and for my son. Now I have received a Residence Questionnaire.

And I have 2 questions:

Does it mean that my son's application will continue irrespective of mine?

If I withdraw my application, will it affect to my son's application too?

Thank you,

Hello,

Thanks for sharing your question with us.

Unfortunately, if your son is a minor he cannot apply for citizenship on his own.

According to the Citizenship Applicaton Form Instruction guide,

"Minor children must:

•be under 18 years of age at the time of the application;
•be a permanent resident of Canada;
•have at least one parent (includes adoptive parent) who is a Canadian citizen or who will become a citizen at the same time as the child (applying together as a family)."

So if this is the case, if you withdraw your application and no other parent is becoming a citizen at the same time, then it will affect your son's application.

You may want to contact the CIC Call Centre directly for some additional information.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.

Thanks for your reply. My son is not minor, he is over 18. We have submitted the application together, as suggested in the application guide ( but we have filled 2 appliation forms).
Would be very thankful if you explain what happens in this case. If I withdraw my application, will his application remain in force?
