I am single mom, a canadian citizen. I'm planning to sponsor my boyfriend, whose work permit will expire this Nov 2014,under a common law partner. But I am in a debt settlement program. Am i eligible to sponsor him? I have read that you cannot sponsor if you are on bankruptcy. I'm just wondering if it will affect our application. Thank you

Hello,
Thank you for sharing your situation and questions with us. We can appreciate that you would be concerned about this.
In order to sponsor a spouse, common-law partner or conjugal partner, the sponsor does not have to meet a minimum income requirement.
The sponsor cannot be receiving social assistance or be an undeclared bankrupt.

You may also want to contact the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) Call Centre for some additional information.

Thank you. But what is undeclared bankruptcy? I am under debt settlement program, which is almost the same effect on my credit history, but it's not bankruptcy.what are the chances of getting approved? Thank you
