Ontario Approves Medical Assistance in Dying

Wednesday, May 10, 2017

Ontario has passed an act outlining when and how medical professionals can provide assistance with dying and other end-of-life options. The new act will protect the rights of patients and medical professionals.

Patients may access this care if they are suffering from a very severe or untreatable medical condition. The first step is to talk to your doctor or nurse practitioner.

You can learn more about medical assistance in dying and how to access it from the Ontario government’s webpage. You may also be interested in Settlement.Org’s article on patient rights in Ontario.
