Visa Changes for Romanians and Bulgarians Announced

Thursday, November 3, 2016

The Canadian Government has announced that starting December 1, 2017 Romanian and Bulgarian citizens will no longer need a visa to travel to Canada.

In addition, partial changes will apply in May 1, 2017 for Romanian and Bulgarian citizens who have previously held a Canadian visitor’s visa or currently hold a valid United States non-immigrant visa. These individuals may be eligible to travel to Canada with just an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA).

You can obtain an eTA online for $7. This document will be electronically connected to your passport and is valid for up to 5 years.

If you are not eligible to obtain an eTA, you can apply for a visitor’s visa online or visit an application centre in Bucharest, Romania or Sofia, Bulgaria.
