How Do I Apply for a NEXUS Card?

You can apply for a NEXUS card if you would like to travel more easily between Canada and the US. You can apply in 5 steps.

Step 1: Register with Global Online Enrollment System (GOES)

Begin by going to the Global Online Enrollment System (GOES) website to register yourself. On the welcome page, choose “Register in English” and create a GOES account.

Once you create an account and receive an identification number, you will be registered as a GOES user.

Step 2: Apply for NEXUS

If you would like to apply online, download a NEXUS application form. You can also submit a paper application.

A separate application should be made for each applicant, including children.

The NEXUS application form will require that you provide copies of several government documents, such as:

  • Proof of citizenship or permanent residence
  • A valid passport
  • Proof of your current place of residence

If you are a Canadian or US citizen and a permanent resident of another country, you need to provide proof of both your citizenship and your permanent residency status.

Step 3: Submit Your NEXUS Application Form

Submit your NEXUS application through GOES.

Your information will be sent to both U.S. Customs Border Protection and the Canadian Border Services Agency.

Step 4: Pay the Fees

Pay a $50 processing fee by credit card. While online applications will be charged in US dollars, paper applications can be made in either Canadian or US dollars.

There are no processing or renewal fees for children under the age of 18.

Step 5: Attend an Interview

Check your GOES account for information on the next steps. Once your application has been processed, the system will let you know when you can set up an appointment for an interview at a NEXUS Enrollment Center.

If your interview is successful, you will be issued a NEXUS card and will be enrolled in the program.

Lost, Stolen or Damaged NEXUS Cards

If your NEXUS membership card is damaged, lost, or stolen, you can request a replacement card through GOES. You will have to pay a fee to replace your card and the old card must be destroyed.
