Accounting in Ontario
In Ontario, anyone can use the title "accountant." However, there are only three types of recognized professional accountants. These are accountants with an accounting designation who belong to a recognized professional accounting body. They are:
- Chartered Accountants (CAs)
- Certified General Accountants (CGAs)
- Certified Management Accountants (CMAs)
In order to use any of these three accounting designations--CA, CMA, CGA--you need to be a member of the professional accounting body that offers the designation.
