| Term | Definition |

| eliminate deficiencies | To remove what is lacking or inadequate. To get rid of the gaps or needs. |
| emitting institution | The established organization or corporation (such as a college or university) that has issued something with full authority. |
| in good standing | As it applies to a member of the OAA, "in good standing" means that he or she has paid the annual Licence fee and has no current disciplinary penalty against him or her. |
| legislation | A law enacted by the legislative branch of a government. |
| mentor | A trusted counsellor or guide. |
| notarized | A notarized document is one that is certified to be true by a licensed official such as a notary public. |
| permanent resident | A person with permanent resident status is a landed immigrant or an immigrant who has settled permanently in Canada, but has not acquired Canadian citizenship. A permanent resident is eligible to apply for Canadian Citizenship after three years of becoming a resident. See www.cic.gc.ca for more information. |
| prerequisite | Something that is necessary to an end or to the carrying out of a function, for example, a course that is required or needed in order to take another. |
| statute | Rules or laws that have the force of authority by virtue of their being enacted by a governing or legislative body. |
| syllabus | A syllabus is a description of courses and/or programs offered by a university or other educational institution. |
| transcript | A transcript is an official record of courses completed at a university or other educational institution. |
