Grades 7 and 8 will get 2000 New Guidance Teachers

Monday, April 30, 2018

The government announce today it will be adding 2000 new guidance teachers to grade 7 and 8 to better prepare students for high school.

Ontario will be making a $120 million investment over the next three years. The new elementary school staffing will include:

  • Educational assistants (EAs) to support students with exceptionally high needs
  • Specialists, including social workers, psychologists, behavioural specialists and speech language pathologists to support boards in expanding special education programs and services to benefit all students
  • Up to 400 new mental health workers at Ontario's secondary schools, to ensure every high school student will have access to mental health supports at school.
