Changes to the Employment Insurance Program

Monday, July 18, 2016

The Government of Canada has made changes to the Employment Insurance (EI) program.

These changes allow EI claimants who are newly entering or re-entering the workforce to follow the same eligibility requirements of other claimants in their region. Previously, these claimants had to accumulate 910 hours of insurable employment.

Job search responsibilities for EI claimants have also been simplified. If you are living in a designated region that has experienced economic difficulties, you may now be eligible to receive extended EI benefits.
