Compassionate care benefits have increased to 26 weeks during a 52 week period. Previously the maximum was 6 weeks. You can share this time with other eligible family members.

Compassionate care benefits are a type of Employment Insurance (EI) benefit. You can apply for these benefits if you have to take time off work to care for a very sick family member. You can get compassionate care benefits even if the severely ill member of your family lives outside Canada. Find out more on this topic in the article What are compassionate care benefits?
