New Human Rights Protections Based on Creed

Monday, December 14, 2015

The Ontario Human Rights Commission (OHRC) has an updated policy on creed and human rights. Creed refers to a religion or a way of looking at the world. The policy includes beliefs that are not part of a formal religion but that influence a person’s identity, worldview and way of life.

Under the Ontario Human Rights Code, you are protected from discrimination based on creed in the areas of housing, services, employment, contracts, unions and professional associations.

You can find out more about Creed and Human Rights on the Ontario Human Rights Commission website. You can also learn about human rights protections in Ontario on Settlement.Org.
