Reminder to Book Your Child's Eye Exam

Tuesday, September 19, 2017

Ontario is reminding parents to schedule optometry appointments for their children. The Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) covers annual eye exams by an optometrist or physician for children and youth under 20. Children should have their first eye exam when they are 6 months old.

Contact your optometrist if you are worried about your child’s vision or if they:

  • Do not make eye contact
  • Close or cover one eye
  • Squint or frown
  • Rub or touch their eye(s) a lot
  • Blink more than usual
  • React strongly to light
  • Turn or tilt their head when looking at objects
  • Trip, fall or bump into things often.
