Syrian Refugees to Settle Across Canada

Wednesday, December 9, 2015

Syrian refugees will come to Canada through in several ways: as Privately Sponsored Refugees (PSRs), Government-Assisted Refugees (GARs) and Blended Visa Office-Referred refugees (BVORs).  The community where they will live in Canada is based on the program they come through. Government-Assisted Refugees are placed in different locations across Canada that are decided by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)’s Matching Centre. The Matching Centre considers things such as what social support a refugee has in Canada and which areas have appropriate services. Privately Sponsored Refugees and Blended Visa Office-Referred refugees generally go to the community where their sponsors live.

If you would like to find out more about how to help Syrian refugees, you can visit the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) webpage or the Welcome Ontario - Syrian Refugee Assistance Information website.
