What are the important dates in the tax year?

  • February 2024 - Tax packages are available  online or by mail.
  • February 28, 2024 - Deadline for employers and other payers to give you an information slip, usually a T4 Statement of Remuneration Paid, which tells you and the CRA exactly how much you earned in 2021.
  • March 1, 2024 - Deadline to make RRSP contributions for the 2021 tax year.
  • April 30, 2024 - Deadline for most tax returns. If you owe anything, you must pay by this date or you will be charged interest and/or penalties.
  • June 15, 2024 - Deadline for self-employed persons. If you or your spouse/common-law partner had a business in 2023, your 2023 tax return has to be filed on or before June 15, 2024
    • However, if you have a balance owing for 1202, you still have to pay it on or before April 30, 2024.

All software programs that are 'EFILE certified' are compatible with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) process and will allow you to submit your return directly to the CRA. EFILE and ReFILE services will re-open in February 2024.
