New Immunizations Required for Children

Monday, April 21, 2014

All children need to have certain immunizations against diseases in order to attend school in Ontario.  For the 2014/15 year several new immunizations are required.

Children will need to be vaccinated for:

  • meningococcal disease
  • whooping cough
  • chickenpox (for children born in 2010 or later)

These immunizations are in addition to the ones already required.  Some of the doses required have also changed.

If you are not sure if your child has received all the necessary immunizations, you can check with a doctor, nurse practitioner or your local public health unit.  You can also find information on the vaccines required for children in Ontario’s Routine Immunization Schedule. Children who do not have updated immunizations may not be allowed to attend school.
