Scam Warning for IRB Clients

Wednesday, December 13, 2017

If you are scheduled for a hearing with the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB) or have had a hearing in the past, you may be targeted as part of a scam.

Some IRB clients have received phone calls from people claiming to be from the IRB. The callers tell the victims that they are under investigation and owe money. The calls may look like they are coming from the IRB or from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).

The IRB will not ask you for money. These calls are fake. If you receive one of these calls, do not provide the caller with money or personal information. You should also report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre and your local police.
