Settlement.Org User Survey Findings

Tuesday, July 5, 2016

From May 9 to June 3, 2016 Settlement.Org carried out a user survey in order to evaluate the website's content and future information needs. Only survey respondents who identified as immigrants and had visited Settlement.Org more than once were eligible to participate. In total, 136 respondents completed the survey in full.

The results can be found in the full report or summary of key findings.

Highlights of the survey include:

  • Most Settlement.Org users are adults aged 26-50. Not many seniors or youth are represented.
  • Approximately a quarter of respondents were settlement workers or community workers.
  • The majority of respondents are economic immigrants who now have either Permanent Residency or Citizenship.
  • Respondents indicated that finding appropriate employment was by far as the most difficult aspect of settling in Ontario. They outlined the emotional and financial problems that can arise from a long job-search or being underemployed. Other difficult areas included finding safe, affordable housing, making social connections and adjusting to a new culture.
  • Respondents requested additional information and more detailed content on employment. Immigration related topics were also in high demand.
  • Users like receiving information in articles or in multiple formats. They appreciate realistic, detailed and accurate content.
  • Overall, respondents were extremely satisfied with the Settlement.Org website. The vast majority of respondents rated Settlement.Org as either excellent or good.
