Canada is Looking for Workers from the Agri-Food Sector

Monday, July 15, 2019

The Canadian government announced last week it will be launching a three-year economic immigration pilot to fill labour shortages in the agri-food sector to meet the country’s ambitious export targets.

The immigration pilot is looking to fill labour shortages in the following areas:

  • meat processing
  • mushroom production

Over the past several years, industries such as meat processing and mushroom production have experienced ongoing difficulty in finding and keeping new employees.

Canada’s agriculture and agri-food industry is an important contributor to Canada’s economic growth and vitality, supporting 1 in 8 jobs across the country. Agricultural exports hit a new record in 2018, reaching $66.2 billion.
