What are private career colleges?
Private career colleges focus exclusively on preparing students for employment in a specific trade or occupation.
There are many private career colleges (PCCs) and institutes in Ontario. Often, the scheduling is flexible so that you can take courses and work at the same time. Some of these schools let you take courses by distance education, where you study on the internet or by mail.
The Ministry of Colleges and Universities registers PCCs and you can see a list of registered schools. However, it does not regulate these schools. It is your responsibility to research all schools and programs carefully.
Some private individuals offer training courses that you may see advertised in community centres and other informal places. These people or organizations are not usually registered with the ministry. Before you take a course or workshop with a private trainer, be sure to ask questions so you know what you are getting for your money.
