Faster Processing Times for High-Skilled Workers

Tuesday, June 13, 2017

Through the Federal Government’s Global Skills Strategy it will now be easier for employers to sponsor high-skilled workers to come to Canada. Under the new policies, high-skilled workers who come to Canada on a temporary work basis will now have their applications processed in two weeks.

The two week processing time will also apply to the open work and study permits for high-skilled workers’ spouses and dependents.

The strategy also includes two new work permit categories for;

  • high-skilled workers working in Canada for 15 or 30 days, and
  • researchers coming to Canada for 120 days

Ontario has recently made changes to the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program, expanding the number of applicants it accepts and creating new application streams.
