Many people do not realize that humour and laughter have significant mental and physical health benefits, as well as social benefits.
In fact, developing and exercising a sense of humour can help to:
- Ease anxiety and fear
- Manage setbacks more effectively
- Diffuse conflict and resolve disagreements
- Strengthen relationships and emotional connections
- Relieve stress
- Boost your immune system
- Improve energy levels
Incorporating humour into your life doesn't have to be difficult. Many life events offer opportunities to laugh and see the lighter side of a situation. Finding humour in tough experiences can make it easier to face daily challenges.
Here are some easy ways to incorporate humour into your life:
- Laugh at yourself. Don't take yourself too seriously. Share your embarrassing moments with others.
- Look for the positive side of a situation. Life is full of funny moments.
- Surround yourself with positive people that make you smile.
- Be grateful. Focus on what's going well in your life.
- Make time for humour and laughter. Watch a funny movie or TV show, share jokes or stories and enjoy your favourite activities.
