No Cellphones Allowed in Classrooms

Thursday, August 29, 2019

The Ministry of Education announced today its plan to move forward with restricting cellphones in classrooms starting November 4, 2019.

This restriction will be in effect during instructional time in school, though exceptions will be made if a student needs their phone for medical or special education support purposes.

The cellphone rule comes in response to a pubic consultation on education conducted by the provincial government in the fall of 2018.  Parents, teachers, students and employers participated across Ontario and agreed that cellphones should be restricted in some way.

The  Provincial Code of Conduct has been updated to reflect this new restriction.
