Newcomer Women’s Services Toronto invites you to an in-person session: Indigenous History Overview In-Person Session.
As a newcomer to Canada, it is important to know the historical relationships settlers in Canada have built with the Indigenous peoples. This workshop will walk participants through a brief historical timeline, key terms/definitions, and the reality of residential schools.
We will discuss:
- The definitions of key terms like colomialism, settlement, genocide, indigenous persons
- Learn about the history of Canadian colonialism
- Learn about the residential schools system and institutional violence
