Funding for Inquests into Police-Related Deaths

Thursday, July 20, 2017

Families who have lost a loved one in a police-related event can now access public funding during a coroner’s inquest into a death. The new program, called the Coroner’s Inquest Family Reimbursement Program (CIFRP), is only available to family members who have been granted standing at an inquest.

Eligible families will be able to request reimbursements of up to $45 000 dollars to cover legal fees and transportation costs.

The new program is currently offered in addition to the Coroner’s Inquest Legal Fee Reimbursement Program (CILFRP).
