Passports to Reflect Diverse Gender Identities

Friday, August 25, 2017

Starting August 31st, 2017 Canadians will be able to mark their sex as X (unspecified) when applying for their passports. Interim measures will be in place until Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is able to print documents with an X. The X designation will help people who do not identify as either female or male to obtain passports and other government documents.

You can find out more about this topic in Settlement.Org’s sexual orientation and gender identity section.
