How do I renew my Health Card (OHIP)?

You have to apply to renew your Health Card. You apply in the same way that you applied for your first Health Card.

If you have a green Health Card with a photo, your card has a section near the bottom that says "Valid Until." You need to renew your card before this date. You should also get a reminder in the mail a few months before it expires.

Renew Online

You may have the option to renew your photo health card online at ServiceOntario Renew Your Card.

Renew in Person

If you need to go in-person you can find a  ServiceOntario location near you and to bypass the lineups you can also book an appointment online ahead of time.

If you still have a red and white card, you will soon get a letter from the government asking you to replace it and get the green photo, Health Card. This does not mean that your health care coverage is expiring, however, you must follow this request. If you want to re-register and get the photo card, follow the instructions in the letter. You will need to show valid identity documents as part of the re-registration process. Children over 15 and a half also need to show their own identity documents. Call the Ministry of Health INFOline at 1-866-532-3161 for more information.

Do not let your Health Card expire. If you do not have a valid Health Card, you may have to pay for health services.
