How do I apply for a NEXUS card?
You can apply for a NEXUS card if you would like to travel more easily between Canada and the USA. You can apply in 5 steps.
Step 1: Find out if you are Eligible
Begin by going to the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) - NEXUS information page to find out if you are eligible for the program. You must be a citizen or permanent resident of Canada or the USA to be considered for the program. Some Mexican nationals may also be eligible.
Step 2: Gather your Documents
You must provide certain documents as proof of your Canadian or U.S. citizenship/admissibility and permanent residency. You also must provide proof of your current place of residence. A letter of consent or custody agreement documents may need to be provided for a child's application.
Step 3: Complete an Application
Submit your NEXUS application online.
Your information will be sent to both U.S. Customs Border Protection and the CBSA through the Trusted Traveler Program (TTP) System.
Step 4: Pay the Fees
Pay a $50 processing fee; a valid credit card is required. There are no processing or renewal fees for children under the age of 18.
Step 5: Schedule an Interview
You will be contacted to schedule an interview once your application has received conditional approval. If you applied online you will be contacted through your account online.
You will be interviewed by a CBSA and/or U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer.
If you are accepted into NEXUS, the officer will explain the terms and conditions of your NEXUS membership.
Lost, Stolen or Damaged NEXUS Cards
If your NEXUS membership card is lost, stolen or damaged, the request for a replacement card must be submitted through your Trusted Traveler Programs (TTP) System account. A fee of US$25 will be charged to issue a replacement card. You may be required to schedule an interview before your new card is issued.
