What is the Canada Disability Benefit?
The Canada Disability Benefit (CDB) is a financial benefit for adults with disabilities.
Service Canada manages the program and provides a monthly payment of up to $200 based on your income.

The Canada Disability Benefit (CDB) is determined based on household income. You may be eligible for a full or partial benefit based on how much income your family has. However, only certain types of income are counted in Service Canada’s calculation.

How can I get the Canada Disability Benefit?
You or your legal representative can apply online, by phone, by mail, or in person at a Service Canada office. You can also print out an application from the Service Canada website.
What documents do I need to apply?
It is helpful to have all your documents and details together before you start your application.
You will need your:
- Social Insurance Number (SIN)
- Citizenship, Immigration or First Nations status document
- Recent Notice of Assessment or tax file, in case income questions are asked
- Banking information for direct deposit
How long does the application take?
Service Canada will take time to review your application and supporting documents. You can expect to receive a decision within 28 to 49 calendar days.
What if my application was rejected?
You can ask Service Canada within 180 days to review and change their decision if:
- You are denied for the Canada Disability Benefit (CDB), or
- You do not agree with the amount you're getting.
You can fill out a reconsideration request form or write a letter. Your letter must include:
- Your name and address
- Social Insurance Number (SIN)
- The reason why you're asking for the reconsideration
- Information you may not have included in your original request
