How can group programs with no placement help me?
There are many group programs that do not have a work placement, but can be very helpful to you in finding a job.
One of these is called Job Search Workshops for newcomers. These are usually 3 or 4-day job search workshops for new immigrants to Ontario.
You get job search information, including an understanding of the labour market, effective résumé writing techniques and successful interview techniques, an understanding of the different ways to communicate with employers and their importance, and sources of job leads and various techniques for contacting employers.
While there is not a work placement in these programs, an important part of the program is finding employers in the community that offer jobs to people with your skills. You will also get some one-on-one help after the program is finished.
